Mig welding is often referred to as a semi-automatic process, as the wise feed rate and arc length are controlled by the power source. But the travel speed and wise position are under manual control.

The process can also be mechanized when all the process parameters are not directly controlled by welders but might still require manual adjustment during welding, when no manual intervention is needed during welding, the process can be referred to as automation.

Flux cored arc welding (FCWA):

(FCAW) is a semi-automatic arc welding process. (FCAW) uses a continuous wire-fed electrode, a constant voltage–welding power supply.  The (FCWA) welding technique provides several advantages over other methods.
